Let's make it
Instructions.
- 1
Combine 2 tablespoons of sugar with ½ cup of warm water in a bowl or container.
- 2
Stir until the sugar has completely dissolved.
- 3
Add 1 cup of room-temperature water to the sugar mixture.
- 4
Pour in ½ cup of Dawn dish soap.
- 5
Stir everything together gently without whisking or shaking, which can create too many suds.
- 6
Dip the bubble wand into the solution and blow bubbles.
- 7
Try to catch or gently bounce a bubble on a clean, soft surface or glove.
Safety tip
- Adult supervision is recommended, especially for younger children. Bubble solution is not taste-safe and should not be swallowed. Avoid eye contact and wash hands after play.
- Bubble solution can make floors and other surfaces slippery. Wipe up spills as soon as they happen.
Field Notes
- Parent tip: Oils and dirt on bare hands can make bubbles pop more easily. Try a clean, soft surface or glove, and treat each pop as part of the experiment.
- Science note: Sugar changes the bubble solution and can help the thin film of soapy water last longer before it breaks.
- Experiment idea: Compare different surfaces, gentle and quick touches, or keep track of the most successful bounces.
- OT lens: Blowing bubbles supports oral-motor practice; dipping and controlling the wand works grasp and hand control; and catching or bouncing bubbles encourages visual tracking, hand-eye coordination, timing, graded force, attention, and motor planning.
