Let's make it
Instructions.
- 1
Cook the spaghetti about 2 minutes shy of the package’s suggested doneness, then rinse it under cold water until it is fully cool to the touch.
- 2
Divide the cooled noodles into separate bags, add a few drops of food coloring to each, and mix until the colors are even.
- 3
Let the noodles sit in the coloring for about 10 minutes, then rinse them in a colander until excess color runs off.
- 4
Let the noodles dry briefly, then add just enough oil to lightly coat them and limit sticking.
- 5
Add the colored noodles to a sensory bin with age-appropriate Halloween add-ins and tools for scooping, searching, squishing, and pulling.
- 6
Let the noodles cool completely, then refrigerate leftovers in an airtight container for up to 5 days. Discard after a second play session, after heavy or dirty play, if left out for more than 3 hours, or at any sign of spoilage—always in the garbage, not the sink.
Safety tip
- spaghetti and the small loose add-ins can be choking hazards. Supervise closely and choose or remove items based on your child’s age and abilities.
- Taste-safe does not mean snack-safe: supervise closely, use age-appropriate ingredients and textures, and treat this as sensory play rather than a snack.
Field Notes
- Parent tip: if refrigerated noodles feel sticky or stiff, work in a tiny splash of water or a few drops of oil to loosen them before the next play session.
